EF China Jointly Launched a BRI Cities Alliance

At the Chinese government’s Second Belt and Road Forum on April 25, partners including EF China launched the Belt and Road Sustainable Cities Alliance. Shi Yulong, Director of the China Center for Urban Development, co-signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Maimunah Mohd Sharif, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme; Gauden Galea, Representative of the World Health Organization in China; and Zhang Hongjun, China Committee Chair of the Board of Directors of the Energy Foundation. Hu Zucai, Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, witnessed the important moment as the representative of the Chinese government. The alliance, which was among the official achievements of the high-profile forum, is to support exchange among cities of BRI countries on low carbon, sustainable, livable, and healthy urban development.

Low carbon and sustainable urban development is a common topic global wide, as well as a cornerstone of the ongoing effort of greening the Belt and Road Initiative. Energy Foundation China would love to cooperate with partners to promote the exchange of best practices, models, and experiences between Chinese and foreign cities in BRI countries. Taking the topic as a key working area, we aim to help create vibrant green cities that are distinctively low carbon.
