Prepared by Joanna I. Lewis, a researcher at the Center for Resource Solutions, this paper examines the role that the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has played in promoting renewable energy development in China in order to assess how international carbon finance can best be used to help promote emissions mitigation in the developing world. The paper also evaluates how several options for reforming current CDM structure currently under consideration may impact renewable energy development in China in the coming years.
