Leveraging Water-Energy Nexus to Address Climate Change: Pumped-Storage Hydroelectricity as a Solution for Mitigating Renewables Curtailment in China

In October 2020, the World Resources Institute released this report on pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH), with support from Energy Foundation China. After analyzing current PSH policy and practice in China, the report identifies opportunities to develop more PSH as a viable solution for reducing renewable energy curtailment and coal demand. It also provides policy recommendations for accelerated PSH growth, so as to help healthy renewable energy expansion in the country.

Since the beginning of 2019, Energy Foundation China has supported the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute to study on clean energy development and cooperation among members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Working with six other research organizations, the institute finished this report on renewable energy in November 2020.

Improvement in Air Quality Through Deep Decarbonization of Industrial Parks in Henan’s Cities at the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Air Pollution Transmission Channel

Due to their concentrated energy consumption, China’s industrial parks have become a key field for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and urban air pollution. In order to help realize deep decarbonization of industrial parks in Henan, a populous province in central China, Energy Foundation China supported the Research Institute of Environmental Sciences at Zhengzhou University to complete this research report, which was published in October 2020.

Roadmap for Cooling Efficiency Improvement in Wuhan

In July 2020, Wuhan Energy Conservation and Supervision Center, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, etc. jointly released this report supported by Energy Foundation China. It surveys the current cooling status of the city of 11 million people, analyses existing problems, calculates energy-saving potentials in various cooling fields, and formulates a viable pathway of and supporting policy recommendations for improving cooling efficiency in the city known for its hot summers.

Evaluating Social Health Costs of Air Pollution

Supported by Energy Foundation China, Peking University and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention assessed health effects of air pollution and corresponding medical and mortality costs, to lend support to decisions relevant to air pollution control and public health improvement strategies. In September 2020, the National School of Development at Peking University released this report with their findings.
