Hongpeng leads the China strategy, portfolio and operations of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF). He is the China Chief Representative, overseeing CIFF’s China office, team and portfolio, which includes energy transition, carbon pricing, sustainable cities and urbanization, improving air quality, green finance, climate and environmental governance, and the Green Belt and Road Initiative.
Hongpeng’s career spans across governments, think tanks, NGOs and philanthropies. Prior to joining CIFF, he was the Director of the Energy Program in China for the World Resources Institute, and led the strategic planning, designing and implementing of the program with a focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency. He also led the energy pillar of the China Sustainable Cities Initiative focusing on low carbon city planning and demonstration.
Previously, Hongpeng led WWF China’s climate and energy team and its Low Carbon City Initiative. He authored “Low Carbon Cities: Why and How” in 2010, which provides a systematic methodology and criteria for the development of low carbon cities in China. He also worked on building energy efficiency and green buildings at China’s Ministry of Construction, where he gained extensive experiences on the building sector.
Hongpeng sits on the board of the Energy Foundation, a grantmaking charity organization pursuing clean energy, safe climate and sustainable prosperity.
Hongpeng has both an engineering and a management degree.
