在“双碳”目标下，电力部门作为最大的碳排放来源以及支撑终端电气化发展的重要行业，需实现以化石能源为主向可再生能源为主的电力系统转型。煤电作为典型的碳密集型行业，从排放占比和减排潜力来看，实现低碳转型是我国在2060年前力争实现碳中和的关键点。

近日，国家发改委印发《“十四五”生物经济发展规划》，这是我国首部生物经济五年规划，其中提到，开展新型生物质能技术研发与培育，推动化石能源向绿色低碳可再生能源转型；要培育壮大生物经济支柱产业，推动生物能源产业发展；要有序发展生物质发电，推动向热电联产转型升级。

“十三五”以来，在政策措施的有力推动下，我国北方清洁取暖和散煤治理工作取得积极成效，农村空气质量得到明显改善。

Earlier in December 2023, Energy Foundation China (EF China) organized a comprehensive series of roundtables and dialogues over five days of intensive activities at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.

On December 5, Energy Foundation China (EF China) hosted another edition of the expert meeting series of the Special Policy Study of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) on the Pathway to Carbon Neutrality and China’s Role in Global Climate Governance in Dubai, as part of the EF China COP28 Pavilion themed “Enhancing Ambition Through Implementation.”

On December 4, 2023, Energy Foundation China (EF China) hosted a high-level forum and an international philanthropy roundtable in Dubai, marking the beginning of the foundation’s five-day COP28 Pavilion themed “Enhancing Ambition Through Implementation.”

Zhuangshang Village, China’s first rural demonstration project incorporating photovoltaic (PV) electricity generation, energy storage, direct current distribution, and flexible loads in buildings, was awarded as an “Energy Transition Changemaker” on December 5, 2023, at COP28 in Dubai.

On January 8, 2024, the Institute of Carbon Neutrality (ICON) at Tsinghua University released a landmark new report on “Technology Outlook on Wind and Solar Power toward China’s Carbon Neutrality Goal.”

The Air Quality Task Force of Energy Foundation China pursues world-class air quality and carbon neutrality for China by implementing a co-control strategy for air and climate pollutants. The task force supports cross-cutting research on air quality, climate change, health, energy, the economy, and urban-rural coordination topics.

Supported by Energy Foundation China, the Center for Climate Communication and Risk Governance of Tsinghua University released the report “Engaging China's Generation Z: Research on Life Values and Climate Communication” in May 2024.

In 2024, Peking University’s School of Urban and Environmental Sciences Laboratory for Earth Surface Processes released a report titled “Regional differences in emission contributions and health risks from solid fuel consumption in China’s residential sector.” The report was supported by Energy Foundation China.

In 2024, Energy Foundation China supported Peking University, together with Fudan University and other organizations, to release the “ARCH Flagship Report: Synergistic Governance of Health-Driven Air Pollution and Climate Change - Evidence from Scientific Research.”
