From September 12 to 14, leaders and people will gather in San Francisco from around the world to “Take Ambition to the Next Level.” The Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) “will be a moment to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of states, regions, cities, companies, investors and citizens with respect to climate action. It will also be a launchpad for deeper worldwide commitments and accelerated action from countries—supported by all sectors of society—that can put the globe on track to prevent dangerous climate change and realize the historic Paris Agreement.”

Energy Foundation China (EF China) is supporting and participating in daily events throughout the week in San Francisco. Here are some highlights:

Hosted by the governments of California and China, the China Pavilion is a three-day event highlighting China’s climate actions and how California-China cooperation is driving ambition in both places (public links to detailed agenda, day one, day two, and day three programs and location). Don’t miss the first morning with speeches by California Governor Jerry Brown, China’s Minister Xie Zhenhua, British economist and academic Lord Nicholas Stern, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Xie Yuan, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, former U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Energy Foundation CEO and Co-Founder Eric Heitz, and others. Breakout sessions cover carbon finance, cities’ climate action, carbon pricing, energy efficiency, zero-emissions vehicles, and more. The China Pavilion is open to all GCAS credential holders.

EF China is coordinating a delegation of 100 Chinese officials from both national and sub-national governments. Taking advantage of this in-person gathering, we and our partners have organized a number of side events, including discussions highlighting progress and lessons learned from Beijing’s 20-year air quality improvement effort and advances in electric vehicles in major regions, as well as several dialogues on U.S.-China sub-national cooperation, green and low-carbon development, and long-term strategies.
