Mr. Huiyong Zhang is the Executive Director of International Cooperation at Energy Foundation China, responsible for developing and executing Energy Foundation China’s international cooperation strategies.
He has nearly 20 years of experience in international cooperation on environment and climate change. Prior to joining Energy Foundation China, he served as the director of the Secretariat of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), responsible for the day-to-day operation of CCICED, including fundraising, policy research, communication, and partnership maintenance. Before joining CCICED, he worked at the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China, engaging in research on climate change policy, negotiations of multilateral environmental international conventions, and their implementation.
Mr. Zhang earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Shanxi University and a Master’s degree in environmental law from Wuhan University. He is a recipient of the Humphrey Fellowship for the academic year 2021-2022, awarded by the U.S. Department of State. He studied at the University of California at Davis, while also serving as a non-resident research fellow at the Global Development Policy Center of Boston University. Mr. Zhang holds a legal professional qualification certificate from the People’s Republic of China.
