In March 2023, Beijing City Quadrant Technology Co., Ltd. released this research report about how to use dedicated bicycle lanes to promote low carbon travel and improve social benefits. The report was supported by Energy Foundation China.

Against the background of China’s dual goals for carbon peaking and neutrality, Beijing is taking the initiative to improve its bicycle systems, as part the city’s overall green transformation. This report profiles commuters who pedal along the dedicated bicycle lane from Huilongguan to Shangdi, and studies the willingness of the city’s public to commute by bike. It also discusses the possibility of promoting public bicycle commuting, evaluates the factors that affect citizens’ commuting choices, identifies hotspots for daily commuting, and puts forward suggestions on how to use urban infrastructure, culture cultivation, and community outreach to encourage bicycle riding.
