In May 2022, with the support of Energy Foundation China, the Institute of Science and Development at Chinese Academy of Sciences released this report examining how the automobile industry’s transition toward electrification will influence jobs in China.

The report summaries the current status of vehicle electrification in China’s auto industry, which employs 5 million workers directly, and applies a talent demand model to analyze the changes it will bring to employment regarding number of jobs, required skillsets, and geographic distribution. The report then proposes strategies, principles, and industrial policies for how to train and expand electrification talents for the booming industry.

The authors hope the report provides a scientific employment analysis of the process of electrifying China’s auto industry, and brings to the table new ideas for expanding employment in the new chapter of the crucial industry.
