In early October, Energy Foundation China (EF China) and grantees Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning (CAEP), and the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) held a seminar to kick off research on a collaborative control pathway to eliminate heavily polluted days in the greater Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

In August 2021, the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering of Peking University and the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center (FECO), a think tank overseen by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), held a workshop reviewing their hydrofluorocarbon (HFC)-23 project supported by Energy Foundation China (EF China).

With support from Energy Foundation China (EF China), the Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning (CAEP), a think tank overseen by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), held the mid-term seminar in late May 2021 for its research on the strategy and capacity building for coordinated protection of the environment and climate.

With support from Energy Foundation China, a Tsinghua University research group led by HE Kebin and ZHANG Qiang published an article online in April 2021 at the National Science Review titled “Pathways of China’s PM2.5 Air Quality 2015–2060 in the Context of Carbon Neutrality,” which for the first time identifies the pathways of continuous air quality improvement in China and its key regions from 2015 to 2060 that are consist with China’s carbon peaking and neutrality goals.

In January 2020, a 2050 clean air project led by Professor Zhang Qiang from Tsinghua University and supported by Energy Foundation China convened its final expert workshop in Beijing. This project aimed to propose medium- and long-term air quality goals for China and explore the strategy and pathway for the co-control of air quality and climate change issues.
