Strategy and Planning
China accounts for nearly 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, making its decarbonization a critical pillar of global climate action. Meeting this challenge requires not only technological innovation and policy progress, but also philanthropic contributions that are strategic and effective. There is an urgent need for tailored strategies, systematic assessment, and integrated approaches to maximize the impact of these contributions.
The Strategy & Planning Department (S&P) works to bridge this gap by transforming philanthropic support into public goods that can advance China’s transition and contribute to global climate progress. As a facilitator and knowledge synthesizer, we amplify the impact of philanthropy through evidence-based strategy, rigorous analysis, and collaborative partnerships.
Objectives:
- Provide systematic and comprehensive solutions to critical issues at the intersection of climate change and philanthropy in China and globally.
- Establish an intellectual hub that aggregates insights from research institutions and international peers to generate knowledge-based public goods.
- Deliver customized strategy to strengthen philanthropic organizations while advancing sustainable development.
Functions:
- Support the development, revision, and regular updating of EF China’s strategy to position the organization for success, and to provide valuable guidance for individual Taskforces/Priorities and programs to shape their specific strategies, aligned with the organization-wide strategy.
- Develop knowledge products—Lead the development of EF China’s synthesis reports and other analytical outputs that synthesize and refine specialized knowledge for the philanthropic sector.
- Build collaboration networks among international research and modeling communities, and bridge decision-makers with scientists to translate research into action.
- Coordinate EF China’s Long-Term Strategy for Decarbonization Task Force and manage flagship projects, advancing frameworks, roadmaps, and innovation systems for China’s dual carbon goals.
- Oversee organizational budget and expenditure processes, and propose systematic solutions for optimization.
