In June 2022, the Shaanxi Academy of Environmental Sciences released this report exploring how to adjust the fossil fuel-abundant province’s energy structure and industrial layout by 2025, based on its air pollution prevention and control goals. The research was supported by Energy Foundation China.

It identifies an economically cost-effective pathway toward environmental quality goals, and thus provides scientific evidence for how to achieve green and high-quality development in Shaanxi during the 14th Five-Year Plan period of 2021–2025.

The study also summarizes the province’s experience during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, which provides an good reference for how to do more in terms of protecting the atmospheric environment and advancing socio-economic development in the next five years.
