In September, Energy Foundation China and grantee the Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning (CAEP) held a seminar on the air pollution prevention and control in the greater Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (or Jing-Jin-Ji) region and the Fenhe-Weihe plains, areas that have suffered suffocating smog in China.

Late July, Energy Foundation China and the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment jointly held a workshop to identify policy gaps in the field of air quality for the next Five-Year Plan (2021–2015).

Energy Foundation China supported a session on air pollution and health at the 2nd China Conference on Environment and Health and the International Workshop on Air Pollution, Climate Change, and Health held in Shenzhen from June 10 to 13, 2019.

With support from Energy Foundation China (EF China), more than 40 experts gathered in late April to launch the China Clean Air Policy Partnership (CCAPP) and hold its first steering committee meeting.

Forty experts from research institutions, NGOs, and the business sector shared their experience in air pollution prevention and control, before they explored how to promote clean air research and action in the philanthropy world.

According to the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Law Amendment (new Air Law), China’s municipal governments are responsible for local air quality and are required to develop air quality attainment plans in non-attainment areas.

On December 14, Changzhou held the third Air Quality Management Training, organized by Changzhou Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB), Changzhou Institute of Environmental Science, and the Clean Air Alliance of China (CAAC). In the first session of the conference, domestic and international experts from the Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning (CAEP), CAAC, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory gave presentations on the upcoming 13th Five-Year Plan for Air Pollution Prevention and Control, pollution control in non-road mobile sources, city air quality management, and energy planning tools. Industry representatives from Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, and Jiaxing discussed their experiences with advanced air pollution control technology with the Changzhou EPB and leaders from Changzhou’s industrial parks.

On November 10 and 11, grantee Beijing University of Technology held a training on air quality monitoring and forecast technology for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (JJJ) region and its surrounding areas. About forty attendees from local environmental monitoring centers and stations in the relevant region joined the training.
