Enhance Air Quality Monitoring and Forecast Technical Capacity for Promoting Regional Cooperation in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Its Surrounding Areas

On November 10 and 11, grantee Beijing University of Technology held a training on air quality monitoring and forecast technology for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (JJJ) region and its surrounding areas. About forty attendees from local environmental monitoring centers and stations in the relevant region joined the training1.

Experts from Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, Beijing Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center and Beijing University of Technology gave presentations on their experiences with air quality monitoring. The topics ranged from China’s integrated air quality monitoring system and overall technology, data analysis, historical trends and air quality research, to analytical research options, source apportionment for particulate matter, air quality statistics, numerical forecast systems, and air quality forecast models in decision-making. Presenters also shared case studies on air quality enforcement measures in Beijing’s 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting in 2014 and Military Parade in 2015.

The Environmental Management Program of Energy Foundation China has been supporting regional air quality improvement in the JJJ region for several years. It partnered with the Coordination Office for JJJ and Surrounding Areas, Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau and Beijing University of Technology to design and organize this training.
