In July 2022, ChinaIOL released this report reviewing the energy efficiency of China’s exported room air conditioners, with the support of Energy Foundation China. China exported 44 percent of the 150 million room air conditioning units it sold from August 2020 to July 2021 to other parts of the world. After selecting 18 major markets that China is sending room air conditioners to, the report calculates the products’ energy efficiency levels via data analysis and interviews, identifies factors influencing their efficiency, and proposes improvement actions. The authors hope their analysis can provide scientific evidence for green cooling policies in China, help its exported air conditioner products become lower carbon and more efficient, and lay a good foundation for international cooperation in this field.
