In December 2023, Energy Foundation China released this report compiled by its Transportation Program and focused on modes of urban transport apart from automobiles.

Presenting China’s initiatives, progress, insights, and lessons in the pursuit of zero emission urban mobility beyond cars, the report throws light on the less talked about aspects of transport in cities, including buses, urban rails, shared bicycles, and electric two and three wheelers. For each of the four modes, it assesses their market volumes and development trends, before it analyzes the driving forces and potential carbon mitigations of their zero emission transition. The report also summarizes policies that are advancing the transition.

The authors of the report hope the information and discussions in this report can be helpful to China, as it races towards zero emission urban mobility, as well as to countries at different stages of the transition who seek to accelerate the changes.
