Energy Foundation China holds its 15th Dialogue Partners Meeting

On July 4, 2015, Energy Foundation China (EFC) held its 15th annual Dialogue Partners Meeting in Beijing. With over 60 attendees this year, the Dialogue Partners Meeting is a one-day event aimed to exchange ideas with China’s policymakers on energy and environmental challenges and successes. Dialogue partners and guest speakers participated, including members from the National Energy Administration, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Transport, Development Research Center of the State Council, Standardization Administration, Tsinghua University, and provincial governments of Shandong and Guangdong. A variety of key grantees and field experts as well as EFC staff also joined.

Senior Vice President of Energy Foundation, Lin Jiang, gave a welcome speech and shared America's Intended Nationally Determined Contribution Plan (INDC). He Dongquan, the Acting Vice President for Programs, reported EFC’s overall outlook, the major progress of each program, and 2016’s strategic direction.

Following the introductory remarks of EFC, three guest speakers gave compelling presentations at the meeting. In a talk titled, “Reinventing Fire: China,” Mr. Tian Zhiyu, associate researcher of the Energy Efficiency Center of the Energy Research Institute, shared a major research on how China can embrace clean energy and continue to grow its GDP while improving environmental and human health. Mr. Sun Yaowei, Director General of the Information Center of the National Energy Administration, presented an in-depth analysis on the opportunities and challenges on power reform and discussed technical and market mechanism improvements. Li Junfeng, director of the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC), gave an overview about the 13th Five Year Plan (13th FYP) on National Energy Development. He shared its preliminary framework and strategic position. The presentations were followed by lively discussions amongst the speakers and audience.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Dialogue Partners offered sincere suggestions and guidance on the future work of EFC. Lin Jiang concluded the meeting with closing remarks, in which he expressed his gratitude towards the Dialogue Partners for their valuable suggestions and feedback for improving and furthering the reach of EFC’s work.
