In July 2022, with support from Energy Foundation China, the China Council for an Energy Efficient Economy released this report reviewing low carbon technologies that are applicable to the Chinese iron & steel and cement sectors and can help them achieve China’s dual goals for carbon peaking and neutrality. It analyzes the challenges and opportunities posed by the dual carbon goals for the two sectors, comes up a list of 63 feasible technologies for iron & steel and a list of 37 technologies for cement, and puts them into three categories for different peaking/neutrality stages, after a comprehensive evaluation. The authors also recommend China improving its current practice of deploying industrial efficiency technologies.

Providing a sector-specific perspective for policymakers, they authors hope their findings are helpful for improving nationally promoted technology catalogs to better inform sectors and enterprises seeking for sustainable development.
