Ms. Huang Yan, Vice Minister of Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development, met the famous Danish architect and urban design consultant Jan Gehl, accompanied by the Sustainable City Program Director of EF China Wang Zhigao, at China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, on November 1st.

And the G20 Summit—an economic forum—is a great venue in which to make the case for low-carbon economic growth.

In the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (Jing-jin-ji, JJJ) Region, heavy haze pollution episodes are more serious during winter heating seasons, when pollution from low elevation, distributed residential coal combustion contributes significantly to the concentration of PM2.5.

In order to better implement the requirements of China’s national air pollution prevention and control standards and improve air quality in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (Jing-jin-ji, JJJ), the China Environmental Management Program (CEMP) grantee Beijing Municipal Research Institute of Environmental Protection (BMRIEP) will conduct a project on the clean energy transformation in the JJJ region.

In 2016, local pilots will carry out Phase II projects, including the 13th Five-Year Plan (FYP) for air pollution prevention and control and local city air quality attainment plans. Phase II projects will continue centering on the core requirements of urban air quality standards attainment and carrying out pilot studies on the time limit of standards attainment, phased improvement objectives, measures and tasks for attaining standards, and co-control measures.

The theme is “Innovation Beyond Borders: Bridging the U.S. and Asia,” and the selection recognizes our 16 years of work to move innovative ideas between the two countries.
